the project / study 3 / - Case-Control study (children under 5)
Seasonal risk factors for Campylobacter in children under the age of 5 years
This is a large study is taking place across Great Britain. We are investigating Campylobacter in children up to five years of age. To understand better where children pick up Campylobacter we are contacting parents/guardians of children under 5 years old.
We are asking parents/guardians of children who have recently been ill because of Campylobacter (Cases) and those of children who have not been ill (Contols) to take part in the study.
If your child has recently been ill with diarrhoea and vomiting caused by Campylobacter you may have recieved a letter inviting you to take part in this study.
Even if your child hasn’t been ill with diarrhoea and vomiting you may have recieved a letter inviting you to take part in this study.
We are asking parents/guardians to complete a questionnaire which captures places they have visited, their activities and foods eaten.
As part of the questionnaire we have included new ways to help to trigger peoples’ memories.
By looking at the differences between the two groups we can learn more about how children pick up Campylobacter and therefore how to prevent it.
We take great care to ensure that any information that is given to us is kept very safe.
